ORIENTATION TOPONYMS AS A SYSTEM OF NAIVE SPACE DIVISION (BY THE EXAMPLE OF KAMCHATKA HYDRONYMS)
Abstract
The article analyzes the immediate filling of a fragment of the semantic field of the Kamchatka hydronymic orientations (orientation toponyms). Place names or toponyms form the system of absolute coordinates (top — down, North — South, East — West, along — across) or regionalize the space and help a person find himself in it in relation to the road, the pass, housing and other natural and man-made objects, but also through the understanding of the spatial arrangement of his own physical body.Key words
Toponymy, hydronym, nomination principle, semantics.
