DIALECT IN CZECH FICTION
Abstract
The paper regards a phenomenon of vernacular Czech koine alias Common Czech, spread in most of the Czech Republic, in respect to Standard Czech with which it enters into relations of diglossia. The rest territories of the country host the same relations between Standard Czech and local dialects (interdialect). This situation though not systematically is revealed in fiction. The expansion of vernacular Czech koine/dialect in the areas traditionally dominated by Standard Czech contributes to the transformation of diglossia into post-diglossia.Key words
Dialect, vernacular Czech koine, Standard Czech, diglossia, code-switching, register, fiction.
