THE ROLE OF “SECOND BAKU” DURING THE GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR

Abstract

The article discusses the growing role of “Second Baku” during the Great Patriotic War as an example of a large oil trust “Buguruslanneft” (Orenburg region). The discovery of Buguruslan oil deposit in the summer of 1937 led to the birth of the first oilfield in the region. It is proved that, in spite of the difficulties and complexities arising from the outbreak of war, oil production during the war years increased almost 7 times and the country gained almost 1 million tons of oil. Gas production evolved along with the oil industry, which made it possible to build the country’s first gas pipeline Buguruslan — Kuibyshev thus coping with the fuel crisis of the industrial Kuibyshev.
