ACTIVITIES OF LAW ENFORCEMENT AUTHORITIES OF RUSSIA IN LATE XIX — EARLY XX CENTURY ON THE ENFORCEMENT OF “LESE MAJESTE” ARTICLES

Abstract

The article analyzes the activity of law enforcement authorities in Russia in late XIX — early XX centuries on enforcement of articles related to the so-called “lese Majeste” (Article 246 of the Penal Code and Criminal Corrections (1885) and Article 103 of the Criminal Law (1903). It is made on the basis of continuous study and analysis of the criminal cases in one particular region — Orenburg province. The ideology of imperial authority excluded the rejection of such articles but their exact implementation was followed by more problems and difficulties.
As a result local authorities faced the need to specify the best options for law enforcement by themselves, however, eventually it led to the conflict with the fundamental principles of law.

Key words

Law enforcement, “lese Majeste”, legal experience, crime, punishment.
