THE ROLE OF HORTICULTURE IN THE SUPPLY OF STALINSK POPULATION DURING THE GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR

Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of agricultural component in everyday life of population of industrial Stalinsk city. The author characterizes the activities of the city government on the development of horticulture during the Great Patriotic War.
The statistical data on the extent of gardening during the war, the number of crop in the gardens in different periods of the war, the size dynamics of individual gardening area during the war are presented and analyzed in the article. As a result of the research the conclusion is made that residents of Stalinsk monthly had 9 kg of potatoes and 1.8 kg of vegetables. The workers monthly received 1.5 kg of grain and pasta, and 2.2 kg of meat by cards. Potatoes and vegetables from the gardens constituted a significant share of the supply of the citizens.
