SOCIOPOLITICAL MOODS OF WORKERS AND EMPLOYEES IN DEFENSE INDUSTRY OF WESTERN SIBERIA DURING THE GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR

Abstract

The article considers sociopolitical moods of workers and employees in one of the most significant centers of defense industry which supplied the front with weapons and ammunition. The author investigates such displays of these moods as massive volunteering of workers to join Siberian fighting units of the field army; shows active participation of workers and employees in raising funds including contribution of personal savings and parts of salary to the state loans in order to create the National Defense Fund, to build additional flying squadrons, tank columns and other military equipment. They also sent echelons to the front with warm clothes and gifts to the soldiers and officers. The author also notes that many workers having mobilized from other regions, especially from rural areas, could not bear hardships due to an inability to meet their immediate needs. All this led to breaches of labour discipline and desertion of workers from the enterprises. However the majority of workers, engineers and technicians worked hard to forge the weapons of Victory over the fascism.
