DID THE SOVIET UNION INTEND TO ATTACK HUNGARY IN 1941?

Abstract

The article analyzes the state of the Red Army Forces on the Soviet-Hungarian frontier before the Great Patriotic War started. It is proved that the Army Forces were concentrated in the defense groups. They experience the lack of people and resources. The article repudiates the thesis about their “threatening concentration” put forward by the Hungarian Armed Forces Staff. The Soviet plans for strategic Armed Forces expanding did not mean having Red Army battles against Hungarian Army Forces. The fact that Koshitse was bombed by German Air Forces using Soviet ammunition which was the formal cause for Hungary to declare war on the USSR is proved. The author draws a conclusion that the USSR did not intend to unleash the war against Hungary after Germany had attacked the USSR. Thus, the Soviet Union did not have in store the armed attack on Hungary in 1941. Hortic staff committed an act of aggression against the USSR declaring a war on June 27, 1941.

Key words

The Great Patriotic War, the USSR, Hungary, Germany, Koshitse.
