COMBAT ACTIONS OF THE RED ARMY AGAINST THE GERMAN TROOPS AND THE HUNGARIAN MOBILE CORPS IN UKRAINE IN 1941

Abstract

The article, based upon the Russian Federation Central Ministry of Defence Archive documents and other sources, studies the course of the Soviet troops military operations against the invaders in the most dramatic — the initial period of the Great Patriotic War. The mass combat heroism of the Red Army soldiers and their commanders in the course of heavy fighting is shown. The author analyzes in detail the reasons for the low combat capability of Hungarian troops. The author comes to the conclusion that the morale character strength of the Hungarian mobile corps soldiers and officers, who took part in the fascist aggression against the USSR, their low morale and psychological qualities, the effectiveness of the Soviet military propaganda working for the enemy’s discouragement, as well as the great losses of the Hungarian units in the course of fighting in Ukraine forced the chief of the Hungarian General Staff, general Sombathey, to come to a decision to withdraw the mobile corps from the Eastern Front to its homeland in November 1941.

Key words
