STRUCTURAL ORGANIZATION OF THE ORENBURG SECURITY BODIES (1918 — EARLY 1922)
Abstract
The article is devoted to problems of formation of state security system — bodies of Cheka (All-Russian Special Commission for Combating counter-revolution, Sabotage, and Speculation) — in the Orenburg province. In 1918 — early 1922 the Cheka leadership searched for new structural forms, which allowed effective response to the challenges of the times. Some problems have a different interpretation in the historiography. The most active changes occurred in 1920. The first and the second reform of Cheka were implemented, as well as their reorganization into the State Political Directorate. The specificity of the Orenburg province was mainly associated with the administrative changes. This has led to the parallel existence of multiple security structures in the territory under consideration.
