SOURCES FOR RESEARCHING STUDENTS LABOR SQUADS AS A FORM OF VOLUNTEERING DURING THE FIRST WORLD WAR (ON MATERIALS OF THE CENTRAL STATE ARCHIVE OF MOSCOW)

Abstract

The article is based on the materials of the State Budgetary Institution of Moscow “The Central State Archive of Moscow” and is devoted to the description of funds and documents that contain information about the work of voluntary labor associations of students during the First World War. The archival materials complemented the already known information on the topic under study, and the introduction of new documentary sources in the scientific circulation that are stored in archival institutions filled the gaps in the disclosure of the history of the formation of volunteerism among youth in 1914—1916 on the territory of various provinces of the Russian Empire.
The author analyzes the documentary materials (magazines, reports, petitions) of the departments of Her Imperial Highness Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna’s Committee for the provision of charitable assistance to families of persons called to war, as well as reports of the heads of educational districts. They are valuable sources that allow to determine the key principles of organizing and forming voluntary public squads of students, the numerical and personal composition of student associations, to reconstruct the workdays of students, to identify the specifics and timing of the field work performed. The analysis of the above documentation also indicates the legal and organizational problems and difficulties encountered by the members of the public squads locally.

Key words
