ECONOMIC ADAPTATION OF THE BALTIC PEOPLES IN SIBERIA IN EARLY XX CENTURY (BASED ON THE MATERIALS OF THE YENISEI REGION)

Abstract

The paper presents the research results of the resettled economies of the Latvians, Estonians and Lithuanians on the basis of the published and archival statistical data. It is revealed that the size of the sown area, the structure of crops and preferences in cattle breeding depended little on the ethnicity of the householder. The author reveals much greater differences between resettled farms of different natural zones than between farms of different ethnic groups. At the same time, the study of the press made it possible to identify some features that distinguished the Baltic economies from other settlers and old-timers: seven-zone crop rotation, use of fertilizers, flax growing, berry farming.

Key words

Baltic peoples, migration agriculture, Kansk county, Achinsk county, Krasnoyarsk county, Minusinsk county, Yenisei province, structure of crops, livestock production, moonshining, flax growing.
