DEVELOPMENT AND ASSESSMENT OF CRITICAL THINKING IN UNDERGRADUATE AGRICULTURE STUDENTS IN THE FOREIGN LANGUAGE CLASSROOM
Abstract
The article is devoted to the problem of improvement and assessment of critical thinking through foreign language learning at Agricultural University. The goal of the research is to develop and theoretically substantiate the pedagogical conditions for the improvement and assessment of critical thinking in undergraduates. The effectiveness of the development of critical thinking in the foreign language class is ensured by the following strategies: “Reading Circles” strategy; Socratic-questions-based discussions; group presentations; writing assignments (abstracts, essays). These classroom management strategies create active meaningful environment that produces a beneficial motivating effect on the meaningful activities of students. The authors also justify the application of the contextual approach to the assessment of critical thinking and develop a criteria-based system for critical thinking assessment.
