FORMATION AND CURRENT STATE OF THE FLORA OF SHAKINSKY OAK FOREST (KUMYLZHENSKY DISTRICT, VOLGOGRAD REGION)
Abstract
The article discusses the history of formation and modern condition of the Shakin oak forest located at the North-Western part of Volgograd region. It is one of the southernmost localities of the European part of Russia, ancient mountain forests with trees of oak (Quercus robur) of 200 years or more. The authors have carried out the study of the flora of oak forests for 20 years since 1997 till 2017. On the basis of herbarium material and literary data the list of higher plants growing here was compiled. As a result, the floristic list contains 763 species of vascular plants from 370 genera, 90 families and 4 divisions. There are 18 species included in the Red Data Book of the Volgograd region and 6 species in the Red Data Book of the Russian Federation. Shakin oak forest is extremely rich floristically, including threatened species, which, of course, deserve special protection and care.
