CRIMES AGAINST THE PERSON: THE GENDER ASPECT (ON MATERIALS OF THE RUSSIAN VILLAGE OF UDMURTIA OF THE SECOND HALF OF THE XIX CENTURY)
Abstract
The article is based on the materials of the Glazov District fund for peasant affairs. The activation of modernization processes in the post-reform period sharply marked the problem of emancipation among peasantry. Bringing the reforms into action, the government relied on the peasantry as an exponent of traditional values and regarded it as a layer that, due to its large number and stability of its own way of life, was able to naturally restrain the course of reforms and prevent the destructive development for the country. However, as the processes of peasantry emancipation evolved, inequality between peasant men and women started manifesting. The reason was the patriarchal way of rural life. Tradition conflicted with the development of legal self-awareness of Russian peasant women.
