SLOGANS OF THE REBELLIOUS “RED ARMY OF TRUTH” HEADED BY A. SAPOZHKOV: TO THE PROBLEM OF UNITY OF THE REBELLIOUS SLOGANS OF THE 1920s
Abstract
In modern historiography, there is a thesis about a single “program” of peasant rebels of the 1920s, which is substantiated by the unity of slogans in various speeches around the country. The author explores the slogans of the “Red Army of Truth”, which the supporters of this thesis consider the most revealing case of protest. Having collected and analyzed the slogans of the “Army of Truth” from various sources, the author concludes that the absence of the basic slogan recognized by all Russian rebels (“Soviets without Communists”) casts doubt on the allegation of the universality of this “program”. In addition, the author believes that reducing the public speech to one or several slogans is a mistake since the proclamation of each of them is primarily a tactical device, determined by the audience the rebels addressed.
