WATER SUPPLY OF THE CITIES OF THE CHKALOV (ORENBURG) REGION DURING THE GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR
Abstract
The article deals with the problems of the functioning of water utilities of the Chkalov (Orenburg) region during the Great Patriotic War. It was proved that the water supply of the cities of the region, which was insufficient in prewar years, was catastrophic due to the increase in the urban population because of the evacuated and labor-mobilized, building hospitals. The arrival of a large number of evacuated enterprises complicated the situation, since water consumption for production needs increased to the detriment of households. Local government and party institutions tried to improve the water supply through the reconstruction and repair of existing water supply systems, increase their capacity through additional pumps, etc., but did not completely solve the problem.
