THE HOUSING PROBLEM IN STALINSK DURING GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR

Abstract

The article analyzes the living conditions in the years of the Great Patriotic War on the materials of the city of Stalinsk. The reasons for problems with housing were identified, the living conditions of citizens in various types of housing were shown, and the actions of the authorities to solve the housing problem were described. The source base of the research includes materials of State archives of Kemerovo region in Novokuznetsk, State archives of Novosibirsk region, the periodical press (the newspaper “The Bolshevik steel”). The paper concludes on the chaotic development of Stalinsk city during the war, which is associated with the placement of dozens of evacuated factories in the city around which new residential areas were built. The new housing was built in a short time and was of low quality. Nevertheless, housing building provided citizens with a minimum of living space and allowed them to survive in the hard conditions of war.
