INTERINFLUENCE OF THE INSTITUTE OF COMPASSIONATE WIDOWS AND THE HOLY TRINITY COMMUNITY OF SISTERS OF MERCY

Abstract

The article presents some aspects of the history of the institution of compassionate widows and the Holy Trinity Community of sisters of mercy. The author considers archival documents that allow a fresh look at the features of the development of these institutions. The author analyzes the documents, the activities of compassionate widows and the Holy Trinity community of sisters of mercy. A comparison is made between Catholic and Russian community for patient care. It is concluded that the appearance in the first half of the 19th century of the institution of compassionate widows and sisters of mercy communities became a new phenomenon in the history of charity and social service in Russia. Despite the fact that both institutes were guided by the Western European tradition, in practice, those were the organizations completely different from each other, having no analogues.
