PHYSICAL EDUCATION IN THE TATAR AUTONOMOUS SOVIET SOCIALIST REPUBLIC IN THE PREWAR YEARS AND DURING THE GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR
Abstract
The article is devoted to the study of various forms of physical education in the Tatar Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic in the prewar years and during the Great Patriotic War. It is noted that the “Ready for Labor and Defense” complex introduced in the USSR in 1931 was the basis for physical education throughout the country. It is emphasized that voluntary defense societies gained strength, along with the state development of physical education and sports. With the outbreak of the war, physical education and sports organizations faced new challenges. They were aimed at the military physical training of citizens as a combat reserve of the Red Army and provided for the widespread deployment of educational-sports and military-physical education work with the population. Based on the study and analysis of archival sources, it is argued that despite thr extreme conditions, physical activity in the rear regions did not stop as relay races, cross-country events, football matches, etc. were held. Sport activities developed such important personal qualities as self-confidence, willpower, strength of character, perseverance, self-control, which was crucial for achieving victory over the enemy.
