BATHHOUSES AS A COMPONENT OF URBAN DAILY LIFE IN ORENBURG OF THE 19th CENTURY
Abstract
The bathhouse as an element of urban everyday life was a factor that strongly influenced the quality of life of citizens. The description of the design and sanitary conditions of urban public baths given in the article is based on various sources. The characteristics of the development of the bath industry in Orenburg, described in the article, was determined by the pronounced state nature of the city, as well as natural conditions such as water scarcity. The attention is paid to such problems of the Orenburg baths as poor maintenance, unsanitary conditions, and high risks of infection. The author argues that the public baths had a negative impact on urban ecology. The article analyzes the impact of the public baths on the daily life of Orenburg inhabitants in general.
