THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE HEALTH CARE SYSTEM OF SOVIET WOMEN AND CHILDREN IN 1946—1953s (BASED ON MATERIALS FROM THE AKTOBE REGION)

Abstract

The article identifies positive and negative trends in the development of the system of protecting the health of women and children in the Kazakh SSR using the example of the Aktobe region. It is proved that the main trend in the post-war period was the increase in the number of obstetric and maternity clinics, child care facilities and dairy kitchens. An important direction in the development of health care was the fight against the growth of epidemic diseases caused by the war and famine of 1946—1947. Archival documents indicate that in the Aktobe region, work was poorly done to identify and treat infectious diseases, which led to an increase in mortality in 1948, especially due to tuberculosis patients and children under the age of one. To combat the high incidence of tuberculosis in children, compulsory vaccination of newborns and other contingents of children and timely hospitalization of patients were introduced everywhere. It is concluded that, despite the post-war difficulties, the state has taken a number of measures to solve health problems and improve the quality of medical care for women and children, especially in rural areas.
