IMPLEMENTATION OF CUMULATIVE INTEGRATING FUNCTION OF MENTAL MAPS WITHIN THE DISCIPLINE “THEORY AND METHODS OF RUSSIAN LANGUAGE TEACHING”

Abstract

The article considers the possibilities of implementation of cumulative integrating function of a mental map as a modern didactic means of cognitive visualization which allows to understand and to encode a large amount of academic and scientific information by means of presenting it in visual and graphical form with the help of different codes (verbal, eidetic, sign). In the process of mental map creation subject knowledge is accumulated (cumulative function) and integrated into a certain system (integrating function). The definition of a mental map for some specific scientific field is clarified; the patterns of mental maps that were made by the students studying the discipline “Theory and methods of Russian language teaching” are presented. The authors show the importance of using mental maps for learning and cognitive activity of the students of Philology for the purpose of their professional competence development, and their visual literacy and visual culture building.
