NEW OCCURRENCES OF RARE FAUNA SPECIES IN THE ORENBURG REGION AND BUZULUK PINE FOREST
Abstract
The article provides new data or data previously not included in the Red Data Book on rare species for the fauna of the Orenburg Region and Buzuluk pine forest (Orenburg and Samara region sections). They include 1 reptile species — the steppe runner Eremias arguta, 7 bird species — a wood grouse Tetrao urogallus, a red-footed falcon Falco vespertinus, an imperial eagle Aquila heliaca, a great bustard Otis tarda, a Eurasian eagle-owl Bubo bubo, a black redstart Phoenicurus ochruros, a wood warbler Phylloscopus sibilatrix and 1 mammal species — a Eurasian lynx Lynx lynx. The obtained data specify, sometimes significantly, the habitats of some red-listed species in the Orenburg region. In particular, new locations and breeding sites have been established (with the indication of administrative districts) for the red-footed falcon, the imperial eagle, the Eurasian eagle-owl, the wood warbler and the steppe runner in the faunistically poorly studied region of north-western and western Orenburg. It describes new occurrences of great bustards in the central Orenburg region, including ones during the breeding period, and the entry of the lynx into the south of the region. A new breeding area for the black redstart spreading across the Urals has been identified. The information on the red-listed species allows making adjustments to the latest edition of the Red Data Book of the Orenburg region and getting a more complete picture of their distribution in the region.
