A NEW SITE — A SINGLE MOUND NOVONIKOLAEVSKY IV IN THE LIGHT OF THE STUDY OF THE FUNERAL RITES OF THE CHERKASKUL CULTURE

Abstract

Despite the fact that the Cherkaskul culture as a separate phenomenon was singled out in the middle of the XX century, its genesis and characteristics still leave many questions. The article presents new data on the funeral rites of the Cherkaskul culture — the materials of the excavations of the single Novonikolaevsky IV mound in the Varna district of the Chelyabinsk region. The obtained characteristics of the object were correlated with the database of Cherkaskul burial sites of the forest-steppe region of the Urals in order to determine the degree of compliance with the cultural tradition. The spatial analysis of the location of the site in the environment of synchronous objects of the steppe region of the Southern Trans-Urals has been carried out. On the whole, the studied complex corresponds to the characteristic features of the funeral rite of the Cherkaskul culture, but its solitary character and a number of other features are atypical.

Key words

Southern Trans-Urals, Bronze Age, Cherkaskul culture, cemetery, mound.
