RARE AND PROTECTED LIGNICOLOUS LICHENS OF BIOLOGICALLY VALUABLE WOODLAND IN BELARUS
Abstract
Based on the data accumulated over the 240-year history of lichenological studies in Belarus (1781—2020), the characteristics of the lignicolous lichen biota of Belarus are presented. 90% of lignicolous lichens have wide substrate preferences and inhabit, in addition to wood, the bark of trees and shrubs, stones, soil, mosses, needles, lichens and fungi, as well as root inversions. Only 19 species of lignicolous lichens are obligate, 18 of which are extremely rare and known from less than 5 localities in the country. The article discusses the species that are indicative for the definition of “biologically valuable” woodland.
