Abstract
The review examines the book “Orenburg Region — a multicultural and cross-border region of the Russian Empire”, containing 270 documents on the political, administrative, socio-economic and cultural development of the Orenburg province in the pre-revolutionary period. The features of the historical sources included in the collection are analyzed, their importance is shown both for the history of the Orenburg region — the southeastern outpost and frontier of the Russian Empire, and for national history as a whole. The publication under review is concluded to be a valuable contribution to the development of modern regional historiography of pre-revolutionary Russia.
