UNPUBLISHED BLOCKADE MEMOIRS OF LENINGRAD RESIDENTS FROM THE FUND OF NINA A. KOROLYOVA

Abstract

The final part of previously unpublished blockade memories from the fund of Nina Aleksandrovna Korolyova, stored in the Central State Archive of the Udmurt Republic (fund R-1703), is given. During the Great Patriotic War, N. A. Korolyova lived in besieged Leningrad, and after her graduation ended up in Izhevsk. Being an active member of the Council of Veterans, she in 1998—1999 recorded the impressions of the war time preserved by former countrymen. The final selection includes the memoirs of six residents of Leningrad. The oldest of them was born in 1920, the youngest was born in 1931. Their authors share their feelings from the beginning of the blockade, convey the details of their daily lives during it. The memoirs tell about the survival strategies of the families of the respondents. The blockade survivors describe their work activities, from which we can conclude about their contribution to the Victory. The data on lifting the blockade look quite emotional. A number of memoirs contain details about the evacuation from Leningrad to the mainland and further to other cities. These documents of personal origin, in line with the history of everyday life, expand our knowledge about the Great Patriotic War, in particular about the blockade of Leningrad. The published memoirs complement those already known and will help resist attempts to rewrite history.

Key words

Great Patriotic War, memoirs, history of everyday life, blockade of Leningrad, evacuation, children of war.
