CHILDHOOD IN RUSSIA AT THE TURN OF THE 19th — 20th CENTURIES: WESTERN AND RUSSIAN SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE ON PROBLEMS, PECULIARITIES AND SOURCES OF STUDY

Abstract

The article provides an overview and analysis of Russian and foreign historiography of the history of childhood since the emergence of this scientific field, i.e., from the middle of the 20th century to the present day. Based on the opinions of the most authoritative researchers, the author believes that the study of such a multifaceted phenomenon as the world of children is most effective in the context of social history. Studies that can be included in this category consider childhood as a social construct, and the child, first of all, as a social subject. This allows us to speak of “multiple childhoods” due to various social circumstances. The article defines the main directions of research into Russian childhood at the turn of the 19th—20th centuries, the leading themes and plots, the key achievements of the authors. The author highlights the works in which the source base for studying the history of childhood is analyzed as the most relevant and debatable problem within the framework of this scientific discipline.
