Abstract
The article analyses the policy of the Soviet state on the training of national medical personnel in Kalmyk ASSR and the main problems faced by the leadership of Kalmyk medical school in the early years. The study introduces, for the first time, archival data from the National Archives of the Republic of Kalmykia. In addition to its educational work, the medical school was active in introducing social practices and ideological and political education universally introduced by the country’s leadership. The state policy on the training of national personnel made it possible to increase the number of indigenous people in the first decade of operation of the medical school. This analysis complements the available material on the history of secondary specialized medical schools in the country as well as highlights the current problem of medical staff training, which will help to avoid strategic mistakes in staffing policy.
