Abstract

The article analyzes the production of wool in seven regions of the Urals during the post-war twentieth anniversary. The authors state that in the first post-war years in the Urals (like all other industries, except for the military and related ones) it was in a state of perpetual crisis. This crisis was caused, not only by the severe consequences of the Great Patriotic War, but also by the extremely neglectful attitude of the authorities to the needs of the village. The paper presents the dynamics of wool production during the period under study in comparison with the RSFSR and the USSR, the role of individual households in sheep breeding is revealed, it is established that the main wool producers in the region during the period under review were the Bashkir ASSR and the Orenburg/Chkalov region. The materials presented in the paper show that the gradual restoration of wool production, which began in 1953, was actually stopped in the early 1960s for a number of reasons. The main reasons were the change in the specialization of agriculture in the region, as well as the rapid development of the production of much cheaper and more practical synthetic fibers. In general, during the study period, the share of the region in sheep breeding on a national scale steadily decreased, and since the beginning of 1960s, the amount of wool produced in the Urals began to decrease.
