Abstract
The article discusses the features of marriage among the residents of the Perm province: Perm, Yekaterinburg, Irbit, Kungur, Shadrinsk, Kamyshlov, etc. Based on the materials of the First Census of the Russian Empire in 1897, the article determines the number and compares the proportions of the population of marriageable age (15 years and older), those never married, married, widowed and divorced. The average age of marriage (SMAM) for men and women was calculated by cities and districts (uezd). It was revealed that a significant number of the single population lived in Perm and Yekaterinburg, the proportions of single and unmarried people varied by city, but were higher than in the provincial districts. Irbit had the highest proportion of married men, and Perm had the highest proportion of single men. In Yekaterinburg, the proportion of women who were married was the lowest. The number of widows was significant in the cities, and the proportion of divorced people was low. The average marriage age in district cities was higher than in the provincial outskirts, this figure higher for men than for women. Diagrams of the distribution of city dwellers belonging to different classes according to marital status were compiled; the ratios of the divorced to the population by estates are determined.
