Abstract

The article analyzes a thesis submitted for the Degree of Doctor of Historical Sciences and defended successfully in December 2022 at the dissertation committee of Kuban State University. The author, relying on a wide range of historical sources, conducted a study of the revival of the Cossacks in the mid-1920s — early 1940s and in the 1990s — late 2000s, which showed that the beginning of both periods was accompanied by a systemic crisis as well as transformation and modernization of socio-economic and political systems of Russia. At the same time, the Cossacks demonstrated the stability of their social form and were able to successfully integrate into the new social conditions of the Soviet and post-Soviet states.

Keywords
