Abstract
The article is devoted to a little-studied topic in domestic research circles — a historical review of public practices in all the diversity of organizational forms in the capital’s healthcare system using the example of the activities of the Moscow City Committee of the Red Cross Society in the period from 1950 to 1970s. The studied volunteer practices have evolved significantly over several decades from episodic actions for sanitary education of the population and community cleanups to the formation of permanent sanitary squads, posts, the institution of public inspectors to the development of a gratuitous donor movement. The role of the Moscow City Society Committee in the social mobilization of the population in providing assistance to medical workers, the fight against infectious diseases, the development of collective donation and the implementation of sanitary supervision in enterprises and institutions is revealed.
