The Civil War factor in the formation of schools in the Far East in the early years of Soviet power

Abstract

The article gives an analysis of the experience of school work development in the Far Eastern Republic during the Civil War and its impact on the formation of the Soviet educational system. The main sources of the research were the Far Eastern pedagogical journals of 1922—1923, on the basis of which it was possible to highlight the lessons learned by the Far Eastern Soviet leadership and teachers from the experience of school work during the Civil War and taken into account in the development of the first Soviet school reforms. It is shown that it was important for the pedagogical community to identify problems and shortcomings in the organization of schools during the Civil War and at the same time to comprehend the experience of innovative teachers accumulated during this period. Conclusions are drawn that the Civil War is considered by teachers and heads of educational institutions on the one hand, as a factor of the forced delay of the Soviet school reform in the Far East, and on the other hand, as an impulse for the development of pedagogical creativity, the value of which is relevant for the new Soviet school.
