Abstract
The article features some materials on the history of the Orenburg borderline showing its development in the second half of the 18th century. These materials provide information on fortifying the borderline with outposts. The causes for establishing outposts, their construction, composition and toponymy as well as garrison service are considered. These fortified constructions are unique and present the most numerous material sources reflecting the dramatic history of the Orenburg region. These facilities were essential to ensure defense and sustainability of these territories in the 18th—19th centuries.
