Tatar merchants of Troitsk, Orenburg province, in Russian-Central Asian trade in the middle of the XVIII — second half of the 60s of the XIX century

Abstract
The article analyzes the participation of Tatar merchants of Troitsk, Orenburg province, in Russian-Central Asian trade in 1750—1868. It is concluded that in the early stages of trade in the Troitskaya Fortress, most Tatar merchants were transient, coming from Kazan and Vyatka provinces. Until 1821, the service-class Tatars of Kazan were involved in international trade as guild merchants not actually being such. Barter courts became the place of concentration of the Tatar merchants in Troitsk, the main activities were stationary barter and periodic caravan trade, as well as mediation. It is noted that Tatar merchants, enjoying the support of the state and acting under conditions of ethno-cultural interaction, occupied their niche in Russian-Central Asian trade, becoming a communication link between merchants from internal provinces of Russia and Asian merchants. Tatar merchants were monopolists among Russian merchants in the caravan trade, accounting for 90% or more of its participants carrying it out personally or through their clerks.
