Holistic text analysis as the basis of systematic literature teaching at school

Abstract
The article discusses the need to apply holistic analysis in teaching literature at high school as a way to implement a systematic approach in literary education. Using the example of a short story by I. A. Bunin “Clean Monday”, typical errors in the interpretation of the story when using an episodic analysis of a work of art are revealed. The most common methodological flaw is the teacher’s focus on the image of only one particular character. This character is interpreted from the standpoint of an example or an anti-example. Such an approach contradicts the aesthetics of realism. Realism is a literary trend that does not involve dividing characters into positive and negative ones. It is demonstrated that a desirable condition for the formation of systemic ideas about literature in educational organizations is the actualization of the method of holistic text analysis as a way of becoming a qualified reader.
