Abstract
The article uses the materials from the Kalinin (now Tver) region to cast the results of varied support provided to disabled veterans of the Great Patriotic War and family members of the bereaved in the first post-war years by the state, work collectives and the public. The article describes the system of social security agencies and the specifics of its functioning, measures to improve the skills of employees of social security agencies. It provides information on the number of war invalids and bereaved families registered in the region. There are also quantitative data on the dynamics of employment and training, housing provision, and provision of in-kind assistance to families in particular need. Rebuilding the housing stock and expanding job opportunities for people with disabilities became a priority after the end of the war. The types of treatment available at that time to war invalids and bereaved families, many of whom needed medical care, are shown. The reasons why some forms of assistance were not fully carried out are analyzed. The source base for the article were the documents of the Tver archives.
