Was there Zaychikov? Experience of microhistorical research using the example of the Deev dynasty of Orenburg merchants

Abstract
The history of the Orenburg merchant class includes many family and personal stories. These stories can be considered the consequences and causes of larger historical processes. On the one hand, the local merchants were the product of the omnium-gatherum, young and active Orenburg society. On the other hand, it was the merchants who created established social norms and socio-cultural traditions here. In this regard, the research of biographies of such Orenburg merchants allows a better understanding of the urban business community principles, its relationships with other social groups, as well as finding out the level of public morality and tracing its transformation. The article provides answers to the questions of historians of the XIX—XX centuries about the origin and early history of the Orenburg merchant dynasty of the Deevs, the degree of their marginality and the attitude of the townspeople towards them.
