Abstract
The article is devoted to the educational and methodological activities of Kayum Nasyri, a teacher at the primary Russian-Tatar school in Kazan, in 1871—1877. Nasyri went down in the history of national education as the founder of the first in the Kazan province and the second in the Kazan educational district primary Russian-Tatar school for boys. The studied material about Nasyri’s activities as a teacher of Russian testifies to such remarkable traits of his as tolerance in hardships and tribulations, a philosophical approach to life and a deep belief in the rightness of his undertakings, a persistent endurance of humiliation and injustice on the part of fellow believers in an effort to benefit his people. Summing up the teaching period of his life, Nasyri evaluated his activities as a just cause being, deeply aware of his mission as the enlightenment of his native people. It was during the period of working as a teacher, in the struggle against scholastic thinking and teaching Russian and mathematics to the shakirds that Nasyri gradually developed the educational program, to the implementation of which he devoted the rest of his life.
