Abstract
Among the burials of the Manyak graveyard, investigated by N. A. Mazhitov in 1967—1968, one stands out — grave 26 of excavation I, which has no parallels in the composition of the inventory in the antiquities of Bashkiria. Bird-shaped thread pendants are common in the archaeological cultures of the taiga zone: Nevolino, Lomovatov, Polom. Their dating is determined by joint finds with belt sets of the “Agafonovo” type. Round pendants have various modifications, they are found in Bashkiria, but are also more typical for the forest zone of the Kama region. The most revealing element is a long overlay, or sharp-end. Only three finds of this form are known: in the complex under consideration, at the Tat-Boyary and Konets graveyards on the Vyatka River. In the latter case, the rich complex of burial 29 from the excavations of M. G. Ivanova 1981, is the base for the formation of the chronological group of late- and post-Azelino according to D. G. Bugrov. From this grave, the function of the last find in Manyak, excav. I/grave. 26 becomes clear — a late modification of the characteristic decoration of the Azelino women’s costume. The context of the burial under discussion is associated with people from the Vyatka River basin. But questions of detailed chronology require a broader discussion.
