Abstract

The article examines the education system in Cossack schools and personnel training in civil and military educational institutions. The author concludes that the first detachments that arrived in the Lena region in the 17th century included a sufficient contingent of people trained to read and write, whose activities served as the basis for the creation of clerical office work. The article provides examples of a cross-system for training competent personnel for the Cossack service, when the children of service people were sent to educational institutions outside their regions. The author specifies the opening date of the Cossack school in Yakutsk (1824) and Okhotsk (1841), as well as the place of work of the Cossack school of the Kolyma Cossack team in Nizhnekolymsk (1829). The reason contributing to the opening of Cossack schools in the region should be considered the growing need in the troops for competent personnel to perform the increasing variety of official duties performed by the Cossacks as translators, clerical workers, participants in scientific expeditions, and assistance in organizing shipping and navigation.
