Kayum Nasyri and fellow villagers: aspects of the relationship between the great Tatar educator and members of the rural society

Abstract
The article highlights four factors that influenced the communication of the Tatar educator Kayum Nasyri with the inhabitants of his native village of Malye Shirdany in the Sviyazhsk district of the Kazan province: care for his father’s house; involvement in the interests of the local society, established in adolescence; “moral economy”, when human actions are determined by non-market laws; attitude towards the local population as a keeper of valuable historical information about the past of their native land and folk literature. The microenvironment of his native village was a place of rest and restoration of spiritual strength for the enlightener. In the most difficult, critical moments of his life, K. Nasyri found consolation and tranquility in his father’s house, physical peasant labor and communication with fellow villagers.
The development of K. Nasyri’s relationships with fellow villagers is covered in a comprehensive manner, along with the social behavior of his brothers, who also left their native village. It is concluded that those of them who managed to become successful people continued the work of their father Gabdennasyr Khusainov in serving the local community and played an outstanding role in solving social problems of the economically weak rural community. The youngest son Gabdelkavi served as a mullah in his native village from 1864 to 1901, the eldest son Gabdelkhai built a new mosque in 1874 and took care of its functioning. At the end of his life, Kayum Nasyri showed concern for his fellow villagers by allocating a third of his accumulated funds for the construction of a second mosque and a new school.
