DESIGNING THE CONTENT OF THE COURSE IN CONTINUING EDUCATION FOR UNIVERSITY TEACHERS: PRINCIPLES, APPROACHES AND PRACTICES
Abstract
The article focuses on the principles and approaches to the content design of the course, aimed at the development of foreign language communicative competence in university teachers. The author identifies the pedagogical principles of designing the course content: learning a foreign language in the context, the use of participants’ personal communicative experience, identification of participants’ communication needs which ensure meaningful language learning. It is a necessary condition for the development of foreign language communicative competence in adult learners. The application of the modular and situational approaches to the organization of the course content and the use of the main content elements (communication sphere, communication topic, communication situation) contribute to the effectiveness of language learning in the continuing education. The use of these principles and approaches in adult education solves the problem of motivation for language learning and enhances adult learners’ responsibility for the learning outcomes.
