Designing educational course “My Family”: axiological, conceptual and organizational aspects

Abstract

The article describes social and cultural changes that have affected the current state of family in modern Russian society. It also provides a study of demographic, spiritual and moral problems together with the related public tasks on Russian family strengthening and child protection that are to be solved in the field of education. The article presents the results of the research devoted to the issue of the formation of young people’s value-based attitude towards family and marriage and confirms the importance and necessity of the course devoted to family studies at the school education level. The authors come to the conclusion that unified educational space in Russia necessitates the adoption of common approaches to goal setting and content material selection for the course of family studies being based on the traditional values of the multiethnic Russian society. The analysis of scientific literature and of the experience of regional educational organizations working in this direction revealed difficulties and shortages that schools face in personnel, equipment, scientific and methodological support of the “My family” course and made it possible to identify axiological, conceptual and organizational aspects of its design. The axiological aspect of the course is a methodological basis, the value approach is defined by the course developers as the leading one, determining its value-semantic content, value dominants and target orientation. The conceptual aspect of the course is represented by a step-by-step design of the course content from elementary to high school. It includes both the knowledge component and the development of practical (ethical, normative, socio-demographic, linguistic, socio-cultural, etc.) experience. The choice of sections and topics is justified when designing the content of the course (“Readiness to create a family”, “Values and traditions of the family”, “Ages of the family”, etc.). The organizational aspect of the course design includes the justification of forms (conversation, group and frontal discussion, etc.), methods and techniques (value-semantic analysis of texts, reflective analysis of one’s own experience of family life, modeling of one’s own future family, etc.), didactic means (texts of normative legal, journalistic, artistic works, fragments of films, etc.), allowing the teacher to motivate schoolchildren to understand the issues of marriage and family building, childbearing and parenting, and awareness of their own readiness to create a family.
