Archaeological and palynological study of the early Iron Age settlement Postupalovo-3 (Southern Urals)

Abstract
The article presents the results of complex works carried out on the territory of one of the seasonal settlements of the Kara-Abyz culture in 2023. The obtained materials complement the picture of the development of the Ufa-Sim interfluve by the population of the Ubalar cultural type. The analysis of the cultural deposits of the monument indicates that the territory of the monument began to be developed no earlier than the 2nd century BC and functioned episodically until the end of the 3rd century AD. The thickness of the cultural layer is 10—30 cm, which indicates a short-term use of the settlement by the ancient population. Isolated finds from the Middle Ages mark the final stage of development of the site of the monument. Palynological analysis of the monument deposits allowed to characterize the natural and cultural landscapes that existed while the settlement was active, as well as in the period shortly before the appearance of the Kara-Abyz population in the studied area and in later medieval times.
