Abstract
In the XIX century, the Russian Empire was an agrarian-industrial state. In order to solve the problem of its agricultural backwardness, it had to resort to various forms of agricultural education for its population. One of them was exposition and demonstration work, including the organization and holding of agricultural exhibitions. Over time, the experience of demonstration activities spread throughout the country, including the territory of Asian Russia, especially the Steppe region. Based on legislative, statistical and published sources, including archival documents, the article examines the activities of regional authorities and public organizations of the Governorate General of the Steppes, related to the participation of the region in exhibitions of all-Russia and international level, as well as the organization of exhibition and demonstration events. The conclusion is that this work has had a positive impact on the level of agricultural education of the people of the Governorate General of the Steppes.
