Development of Physical Culture and Sports in the Post-War Years (1946—1953) in a Backward Region of the RSFSR (by the Example of the Amur Region)

Abstract
The article, based on archival materials introduced into scientific circulation for the first time, examines the development of physical education and sports in the Amur region, which in the post-war years was considered one of the backward regions of the RSFSR. It was revealed that the instructions of the All-Union Committee for Physical Culture and Sports in the region were not fully implemented. In an effort to report on the fulfillment of planned indicators for the growth of the number of competitions, sports sections, athletes, athletes of the ranks, badge holders of the Ready for Labor and Defense complex, local sports functionaries were engaged in falsifications, inflating the indicators for favorable reporting. It was established that the sports infrastructure in the region was poorly developed, there was a shortage of sports equipment and sportswear — all of this affected the physical education and sports work. Post-war food shortages, lack of desire among the region’s residents to engage in physical exercise and sports, and lack of free time hindered mass participation in this work. It was concluded that, despite all the problems, on the whole, the regional sports committee coped with the tasks set, and physical education and recreational work were carried out in the region.
