RUSSIAN LANGUAGE TESTING IN TUVINIAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: CONTENT AND RESULTS OF THE ACADEMIC TERM TEST IN THE 4th FORM

Abstract

The article considers the issue of Russian language testing in the 4-th form classes with Tuvinian and Russian languages. It studies the historical question of the formation of Russian testology in the twentieth century, as well as compares different theoretical approaches to the use of Russian language testing in primary school. It states the poor scientific and methodological apparatus of Russian language testing, the ambiguity of the content, the test requirements and their application and criteria of assessment in primary general school. This article presents the content and the results of the questioning of primary school teachers, as well as an example of a test in the Russian language (for the 1-st academic term), developed by the author and conducted in the 4-th form classes of secondary schools in Kyzyl. The experiment revealed the low level of language and speaking skills of pupils of the 4-th form classes with the Tuvinian language of instruction, the main difficulties and reason for typical mistakes in tests which is the lack of the Russian language basic knowledge. The conclusions are supported by analyses. The author recommends the teachers to pay more attention to the wording of the tasks and offers two variants of the test for pupils of Tuvinian classes and combined Tuvinian and Russian classes which are different not only in lexical material but also in phrasing of the drill. The author defines the ways to improve the content and structure of the tests to diagnose the language skills of the Tuvinian primary school leavers. The paper stresses the need to employ further study of the problem and resort to linguistic and methodological solutions.
