SACRAL AND DAILY LIFE OF THINGS (STUDY OF THE ROLE OF OBJECTS IN RITUALS AND EVERYDAY USE ON THE MATERIALS OF THE BRONZE AGE ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES OF THE SOUTH TRANS-URALS AND KAZAKHSTAN)

Abstract

The purpose and principles of selecting funerary equipment in the Bronze Age burial grounds are still not clear. Based on the materials of archaeological sites of the South Trans-Urals, a comparative analysis of sets of artifacts from settlement and burial monuments was carried out. The study refutes the stereotypical notions that funerary equipment is a reflection of the status and occupation of the deceased. The author selected categories and individual types of semantically important objects, used in funeral rituals, but practically absent in settlements. Compared with the real world of settlements, this set is limited; it does not include tools for handicraft production, professional and household spheres. The basis of the complex is made up of weapons and jewelry — especially valuable and personal things, denoting the gender of the deceased in symbols of beauty and courage. The remaining items were also not the result of arbitrary choice, but were determined by the rules of the rituals.
